Worship - The Song of Moses - Exodus 15

This chapter is about praise as worshipping in song to God and as one way of remembering what the Lord did for them. Read on;

Exodus 15 -New King James Version Then Moses and the children of Israel sang this song to the Lord, and spoke, saying: “I will sing to the Lord, For He has triumphed gloriously! The horse and its rider He has thrown into the sea! The Lord is my strength and song, And He has become my salvation; He is my God, and I will praise Him; My father’s God, and I will exalt Him. The Lord is a man of war; The Lord is His name. Pharaoh’s chariots and his army He has cast into the sea; His chosen captains also are drowned in the Red Sea. The depths have covered them; They sank to the bottom like a stone.

New found freedom was upon them and the Lord had battled for them. Who else could have parted the Red Sea but God? They understood He was the reason for their freedom. They had victory in this battle because of God. This Song was one way to prepare their hearts to invite Him into their life. They worshipped the Lord by singing to Him an audience of ONE. These people who had live in Egypt for 430 years were grateful to God even though they would still have issues with their faith in God. There was a battle to keep their souls worthy to be with God in eternity. This battle still rages on today in the lives of all who live and God will do all He can to reach each one of us in this battle but ultimately it is up to us to make a choice. As God tries to get us into the light with Him, Satan is trying to get us into the darkness.

Exodus 15 -New King James Version   “Your right hand, O Lord, has become glorious in power; Your right hand, O Lord, has dashed the enemy in pieces. And in the greatness of Your excellence You have overthrown those who rose against You; You sent forth Your wrath; It consumed them like stubble. And with the blast of Your nostrils The waters were gathered together; The floods stood upright like a heap; The depths congealed in the heart of the sea. The enemy said, ‘I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; My desire shall be satisfied on them. I will draw my sword, My hand shall destroy them.’ 10 You blew with Your wind, The sea covered them; They sank like lead in the mighty waters.

It has to be rooted into our memories of what God has done for us which helps to keep our faith strong. Back in the days of Moses, there were no Bibles they could read, so this song would help them remember and help them to pass down this part of their history for generations to come. These words are the story of how God had saved them from Pharoah. It was the right Hand of God which brought them victory through the Red Sea because water does not pile up naturally. This was a major supernatural feat which could only have been done by God. The armies of Pharoah had no chance because opposing God put them on the wrong side of the battle. It only took one soldier to step into the walls of water for the rest to follow and as they all went in pursuit to take the Israelites, they met their demise.

Exodus 15 -New King James Version  11 “Who is like You, O Lord, among the gods? Who is like You, glorious in holiness, Fearful in praises, doing wonders? 12 You stretched out Your right hand; The earth swallowed them. 13 You in Your mercy have led forth The people whom You have redeemed; You have guided them in Your strength To Your holy habitation.

“Who is like you” is recognition of only one God who had delivered them out of their bondage. There is only one who can redeem us through His strength and His will. There are deceivers in this world which go against God’s will but they will always be defeated through Him because there is no other god. This is why we should walk in the spirit and not in the flesh. We know what is right but sometimes we confirm the wrong – however truth prevails and some people will not be saved but this is not what God wants. It is the Lord who will have victory over all darkness!

Exodus 15 -New King James Version 14 “The people will hear and be afraid; Sorrow will take hold of the inhabitants of Philistia. 15 Then the chiefs of Edom will be dismayed; The mighty men of Moab, Trembling will take hold of them; All the inhabitants of Canaan will melt away. 16 Fear and dread will fall on them; By the greatness of Your arm They will be as still as a stone, Till Your people pass over, O Lord, Till the people pass over Whom You have purchased. 17 You will bring them in and plant them In the mountain of Your inheritance, In the place, Lord, which You have made For Your own dwelling, The sanctuary, O Lord, which Your hands have established. 18 “The Lord shall reign forever and ever.” 19 For the horses of Pharaoh went with his chariots and his horsemen into the sea, and the Lord brought back the waters of the sea upon them. But the children of Israel went on dry land in the midst of the sea.

This land which is talked about in these verses is the land given to the Israelites by God and to this day this land belongs to them according to God’s will. The Lord will protect His chosen people and what happened with the Red Sea is evidence of this fact so anyone fighting against these people are on the wrong side of God. I have to wonder if this is a test for all people to honor God by respecting His chosen people?  I think the answer to this question is yes. The Lord is in control and will always be and I believe this is a good thing because God will always do what is right for mankind.

Exodus 15 -New King James Version 20 Then Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took the timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances. 21 And Miriam answered them: “Sing to the Lord, For He has triumphed gloriously! The horse and its rider He has thrown into the sea!” 22 So Moses brought Israel from the Red Sea; then they went out into the Wilderness of Shur. And they went three days in the wilderness and found no water. 23 Now when they came to Marah, they could not drink the waters of Marah, for they were bitter. Therefore the name of it was called Marah. 24 And the people complained against Moses, saying, “What shall we drink?” 25 So he cried out to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a tree. When he cast it into the waters, the waters were made sweet. There He made a statute and an ordinance for them, and there He tested them, 26 and said, “If you diligently heed the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the Lord who heals you.” 27 Then they came to Elim, where there were twelve wells of water and seventy palm trees; so they camped there by the waters.

While they had the freedom they wanted, they didn’t expect to fine problems and the first problem was not having drinkable water. When the people turned to Moses to complain he turned to God and sure enough God blessed them by making the water drinkable. This shows the faith of Moses because he turned to God while the people only showed their bitterness for their problems. Apparently, they still did not trust God when they found themselves in a difficult place. They went to whom they could see and talk too instead of reaching out to God. We seek God in the difficult times we go through more than times of peace.  God may test our endurance in times of trouble but we will see Him best during those things. Those troubling times help our faith grow or sometimes those things may turn us away from Him. What faith can do for us in difficult times is to show us how faithful God is and He will also bring us into pleasant places to give us rest from our troubles. God is trying to get them to live rightly before Him, so He can bless them in turn. They needed to learn; with God all things are possible because life is a combination of difficult times along with times of peace.

My Final Thoughts

I love the new praise upbeat music; it is so lively to sing out to God. We need to guard our minds and hearts to all things including some of the new praise music because all things including the Bible can be hijacked by the enemy and twisted enough to deceive us. There is nothing truly safe from this fact I am sad to say but I believe as we draw near to God, He will protect us from being deceived and keep us safe by simply praying to Him to keep our mind safe from these types of attacks. I personally believe to sing words to God with a pure heart towards Him will not do any damage to our souls. It can be frustrating when people come out against some songs that you love but we need to be aware of the enemy’s attacks. Just remember to learn who God is and pray to keep you safe from deceivers and God will answer those prayers because
